Trial continues for member of Florida Warlocks (video)

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. —A member of the Florida Warlocks biker club who was shot at on Sept. 30, 2012 took the stand today in the trial against a member of a rival motorcycle club who is accused of murder and attempted murder.

David Maloney was kicked out of the Florida Warlocks and formed a new group called the Philly Warlocks. It was after that tension, authorities say, that a charity ride for veterans at the Winter Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars post erupted in violence, leading to the murder of three Florida Warlocks: David Jakiela, Harold Liddle and Peter Schlette.

Ronnie Mitchell, a witness to the shootings, said Tuesday that Maloney and another man came out and started shooting during the event.  In court on Wednesday, Maloney’s attorney said there were discrepancies in his story.

During a court recess, Mitchell’s statement from that day was played back to him to ask if it refreshed his memory of that day.

Maloney’s attorneys said that none of the men who were killed died from a shot fired by the defendant. The defense also said the victims and witnesses had weapons of their own, including knifes, batons, baseball bats and more.

Maloney is the first of four defendants to go on trial. All of the defendants will be tried separately.
