Senior Comanchero figure pleads guilty over international drug syndicate

A SENIOR figure in the Comanchero Motorcycle Club has pleaded guilty to his part in an international drug syndicate operating between Mexico and Australia.

Justin Clark appeared today in the County Court, where he pleaded guilty to two charges over the international drug ring.

It is understood the drug syndicate manufactured cocaine and other drugs, and exported them from Mexico using airline passengers as couriers.

Clark pleaded guilty to one count each of importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug, namely cocaine and methylamphetamine.

The court heard the offending happened between 2011 and 2012, but Clark’s exact role in the operation was not detailed.

He was charged in 2012 after a 16-month investigation by a joint multi-agency taskforce, including Victoria Police.

The US Drug Enforcement Agency was also involved in the operation. The operation saw 2.4kg of a methylamphetamine-type substance and more than 2kg of cocaine seized.

Police also seized $30,000 cash, 350g of white powder and 2400 pills, believed to be methylamphetamine, he said.

At the time of Clark’s arrest, Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner of Crime Stephen Fontana said he was a senior organiser of the syndicate.

“This result sends a clear message to crime syndicates,” Mr Fontana said. “Victoria Police and our partner agencies will aggressively pursue anyone who takes part in this illegal activity.”

A co-accused has also pleaded guilty to his part in the syndicate.

Both men will reappear at the County Court in June for a plea hearing.
