MOUNT Isa police have charged three people with charges relating to being a member of a criminal motorcycle gang in the past month.
The Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Bureau, with assistance from Taskforce Maxima, conducted investigations that led to the arrest of three criminal motorcycle gang participants.
Police executed three search warrants on three Mount Isa residences where Rebels paraphernalia was located and seized.
It will be alleged all three persons are patched members of the Rebels.
A ute was also seized and is liable to forfeiture and crushing, upon conviction.
The three arrested included a 52-year-old Mount Isa man, a 36-year-old Mount Isa – both who are believed to be full patched members of the Rebels – and a 24-year-old Mount Isa male who is believed to be a nominee of the Rebels.
All three have been charged with participants in criminal organisation being knowingly present in public places.
Mount Isa Police District Superintendent Russell Miller said “this is excellent work by the investigators involved''.
“These arrests demonstrate the commitment of the Mount Isa District in ridding our community of criminal gangs,'' he said.
“This commitment will continue while these gangs exist.''
Detective Inspector Brendan Smith, of Taskforce Maxima, said the arrests demonstrated the police service, regardless of the location of the offences will be relentless in pursuing criminal gangs.
“The Queensland legislation is designed to prevent participants of criminal gangs from consorting,'' Detective Inspector Smith said.
“This assists to disrupt their planning and other unlawful activity.
“It also limits their ability to intimidate the public.
“The work by the investigators in this case has seen almost half the Mount Isa chapter taken into custody.''
