Nomads bikie gang president arrested in Sydney fraud probe

The national president of the Nomads bikie gang has been charged as part of a multi-million-dollar property fraud investigation, the NSW Police Force says.

The 35-year-old man was arrested after being pulled over while driving a Mercedes Benz which police allege had been sold without the owner's consent.

His arrest is the seventh to be made as part of Strike Force Maraar, which is investigating alleged vehicle and mortgage fraud across Sydney connected to the Nomads Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

Police said it was alleged "multiple houses and vehicles", worth an estimated $2 million, had been purchased fraudulently by members and associates of the gang.

They said the gang's president was pulled over while driving a Mercedes Benz without licence plates in Merrylands, in Sydney's west, in January.

"Further checks revealed the vehicle had been sold in Queensland without the owner's consent," a police statement said.

"The vehicle was later seized by police from a Greystanes home."

The man was arrested on Friday, March 18.

He was charged with dealing in property suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

He was released on bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on April 20.
