One dead after pileup involving Hell’s Angels, other biker groups: N.B. police

A 51-year-old man has died in a pileup involving nine motorcycles and an RV near a campground in New Brunswick.

Edmundston police say eight men and a woman, all of whom were driving motorcycles, also suffered injuries in Friday night’s crash and are in hospital.

Police say the male motorcyclists involved in the crash were members of various biker groups such as Hell’s Angels, Red Devils and Dark Siders.

According to police, the crash occurred on Highway 144 as the motorcyclists tried to pass the RV while it was preparing to turn into the St-Basile campsite entrance.

Police say in an attempt to avoid hitting the fifth wheel, the motorcycles came in contact with each other creating a “domino effect.”

They say the deceased rider, a man from Boisbriand, Que., came in contact with the RV.

The driver of the RV was not injured.

Police say the investigation into the collision is ongoing and an autopsy will be performed on the body of the deceased early next week.

A 51-year-old Quebec man killed in a pileup in New Brunswick on Friday has been identified as Kenny Bédard, an influential member of the Hells Angels, according to La Presse.

Bédard was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the spring of 2001. He was later released in 2009 after serving two-thirds of his sentence. Police had also long suspected him of being at the centre of a drug-trafficking network run by the Hells Angels in Montreal's Southwest.

The accident, which injured nine other bikers on Highway 144 in Edmunston, was described by local police as a "domino effect" caused by the group of motorcyclists attempting to overtake an RV that was turning off the road toward a nearby campground.
