Alleged bikies arrested after man with machete shot at Logan Hyperdome

Members of the Rebels bikie gang have been arrested after a machete-wielding man was shot in the leg with a high-calibre pistol at Logan Hyperdome on Monday.

It will be alleged seven bikies from the Rebels' Logan-based chapter met with two other people in the car park at the shopping centre on Leda Drive in Loganholme about 4.30pm.

Police said the meeting turned sour and one of the two non-bikies pulled out a machete, which resulted in a Rebels member shooting him in the leg with a .45 calibre pistol.

It will also be alleged that after the shot was fired, a steel grate was used to smash the windscreen of a silver 2005 Mazda Tribute SUV in the car park.

Police said a white 2010 Toyota Aurion sedan, allegedly linked to the incident, was later found burnt out in bushland at Chambers Flat.

The 27-year-old man, who was on parole, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was arrested on Wednesday at Logan Hospital when he sought treatment for his injury.

He was charged with going armed so as to cause fear and wilful damage, relating the removal of a GPS tracking ankle bracelet.

He appeared in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on March 13.

Detective Superintendent Roger Lowe said officer raided homes on Friday morning and arrested seven members of the Logan Rebels. They also found drugs and a "large sum of cash".

He said all seven were expected to be charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and affray, offences which carry a minimum prison sentence of sevens years under the tough bikie laws.

Police also arrested the alleged president of the Logan Rebels, a 32-year-old Mount Cotton man, in Darwin after he flew to the Northern Territory capital for a meeting with the presidents of Rebels' chapters from across the country, according to Superintendent Lowe.

He faces the same offences as the seven members of his gang as well as an extra charge of habitual consorting and an application has been made to extradite him back to Queensland.

Superintendent Lowe said the incident had not been initially reported to police by the public and detectives were asking for any witnesses to come forward.

"Violence involving gangs particularly in public spaces will not be tolerated," he said.

"We know that individuals within this gang are not just motorcycle enthusiasts gathering for a good time, they represent a criminal organisation and, as evident in this incident, have little regard for public safety."

Investigators are appealing for anyone who was at the shopping complex and witnessed the events or anyone with information to come forward.

Operations Commander of the Organised Crime Gangs Group Detective Superintendent Roger Lowe said the arrests were a culmination of significant police investigations.

“The Queensland Police Service is focused on keeping our community safe and these arrests are a result of extensive police investigations conducted this week,” Detective Superintendent Lowe said.
