More West Coast drug arrests after police raid Greymouth house

Police have raided two West Coast properties in an operation targetting methamphetamine and organised crime in the region.

Detective Sergeant Brent Lyford said police executed two search warrants on Monday in relation to ongoing investigations into organised crime, property offending, and methamphetamine supply across the West Coast.

A 31-year-old Blaketown man was arrested and charged with a number of a serious methamphetamine supply charges and is due to appear in the Greymouth District Court on Tuesday.

Lyford said further charges were likely.

In the other search warrant a 34-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were spoken to at a Dobson address and a number of electronic devices and utensils associated with methamphetamine were seized.

The arrest is one of several related to the West Coast drug trade in recent weeks.

Five people were charged with supplying methamphetamine and another with dealing cannabis after police raided several Coast properties in Reefton, Greymouth, Westport and Kumara in May.

The arrests included a patched Hells Angels member from Auckland who was allegedly caught with $500,000 worth of methamphetamine in Kumara as well as cash, ammunition and a pistol.

"This is another blow to organised crime offending on the West Coast, following a series of good results in recent months. The operation targeting organised crime in the district is ongoing and further search warrants are likely," Lyford said.

He encouraged anyone struggling with an addiction to methamphetamine to get help as police were working hard to make the drug harder to obtain.
