Epping shooting of Mongols bikie Shane Bowden caught on CCTV camera

Two shots have been heard ring out on CCTV the moment a Mongols bikie was gunned down in a quiet northern Melbourne street.

Video footage, which appears to be captured by a car dashcam, has caught the moment bikie Shane Bowden, 47, was wounded while talking to two men in the driveway of a Young St home in Epping earlier this month.

Bikie-busting Echo Taskforce detectives released the footage of the July 1 incident on Thursday as they continue to probe the shooting.

Police said the shots were fired from a car, believed to be a white BMW Coupe, striking Bowden in the lower torso.

The BMW then sped off with its headlights blazing past the filming camera about 7.40pm.

Paramedics attended and treated Bowden before he was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured during the shooting.

Bowden has since been kicked out of the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang, the Herald Sun reports, and the shooting came just two weeks after he was released from prison.

Echo Taskforce detective Inspector Graham Banks said the shooting was a targeted attack but there was the potential for innocent people to be injured or killed.

He said investigators had spoken to the victim several times about the incident.

“It is extremely concerning and just goes to the recklessness of some people in these types of matters and lack of concern generally for the community,” Insp Banks said.

“A projectile such as that coming out of a firearm could travel for a significant distance so that’s obviously very concerning.”

Insp Banks said detectives were still working to try to determine a motive for the shooting and who was responsible.

He said they were looking into whether all three men were the target of the shooting or just Bowden.

“There are people out there who will know who was involved and we would specifically ask on them to reflect on the harm that’s been caused,” Insp Banks said.

“Whenever there’s a matter involving OMCG there’s always opposing parties. If it is OMCG related, there will be people who will have knowledge of it and not necessarily would they be happy with what’s happened.

“Those people have a confidential way of coming forward and speaking to us and we will treat that information securely.”

Detectives have also released an image of a white BMW similar to the one used during the attack and would like to speak to anyone who recognises the car or saw it in the Epping area at the time of the shooting.

They are yet to release any details on the firearm involved.
