Mongols bikie charged over Broncos-linked barber shop gathering

An alleged Mongols bikie has been charged after a dramatic raid at a Brisbane barber shop over the weekend, that ultimately lead to an NRL star in hot water for breaching the league’s strict COVID rules.

Taskforce Maxima officers raided the Windaroo barber shop on Saturday to disrupt a number of alleged OMCG members that were gathered there.

A 27-year-old Ashmore man has since been charged by Queensland Police for allegedly breaching his conditional bail for offences including consorting after investigations determined he was associating with bikie members.

He will appear in Southport Court later today.

“Officers from Taskforce Maxima are committed to ensuring the safety of the community and will continue to monitor the activities of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs to disrupt their criminal endeavours ”, Detective Senior Sergeant Troy Lehmann said.

It’s the same raid that landed Brisbane Broncos star Tevita Pangai Junior in trouble after he also visited the barber shop.

There has been no suggestion Pangai Jr did anything illegal. He maintains he was unaware members of the Mongols gang were there at the time.

However, the NRL star has been stood down for 14 days after breaching Project Apollo protocols by visiting the shop.

“The club has been informed that he attended the opening of a barber shop yesterday, in breach of the protocols,” a Broncos statement said at the time.

“The Broncos are investigating the circumstances around the matter to determine what further action may be taken.”

Both the NRL and the club are yet to slap Pangai Jr with further sanctions over the incident.
