The Inverell chapter of the Viking Breed social motorcycle club held its fifth annual poker run last weekend to give much-needed funds to a local, not for profit group.
Every year the club holds the event to raise money for the Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group and local chapter president Zol McIntyre said he reckons in total they must have raised close to $20,000.
“As a club, we want to do something for the community a couple of times a year, and a poker run is an easy way to do this,” Mr McIntyre said.
“It’s a tradition for motorcycles clubs as well. On the day, anyone can ride any size bike but to be in the club; you need to ride a 400cc or larger motorcycle.
Mr McIntyre said the club encourages anyone to join in the event because the poker run wouldn’t be the success it is without them. This year more than 100 riders took part, making it one of the biggest runs so far which raised more than $3,000.
The six Viking Breed Inverell Chapter members were joined by about a dozen members from other chapters – the rest of the participants were general motorbike enthusiasts.
“We rely on the general riders because it wouldn’t happen without them,” Mr McIntyre said
