Rebels bikie shooting: WA government offers $1 million reward for information leading to arrest

The WA government has announced it is offering a $1 million reward for information to help police investigate the weekend killing of Rebels bikie Nick Martin.

After a briefing with the homicide investigation team, the WA government decided to offer the reward to help track down the culprit.

Police believe Nick Martin was shot by a sniper while attending the Kwinana Motorplex with several other motorcycle gang members on Saturday.

At around 8.40pm he received a single gunshot wound to the torso, which proved fatal.

To date, the person or persons responsible for the homicide of Martin have not been identified.

WA Police has now formed Taskforce Ravello in response to the murder, which brings together specialist officers from the Gang Crime and Homicide Squads.

The government is offering the huge reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the fatal shooting.

“The Government may be prepared to consider recommending a protection from prosecution or pardon for any informant with information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons responsible, provided that the informant was not directly responsible for the homicide,” a statement from WA Police Minister Michelle Roberts confirms.

“This weekend’s killing displayed an open contempt for the law and for the people of this state,” Roberts said.

“Families and individuals deserve to go about their lawful business in peace and security, and not have this sort of trauma inflicted upon them by those who operate outside the law.

“I know that our police will leave no stone unturned in their search for those responsible.

“The offering of this reward is a measure of how seriously the government takes this matter and I urge anyone who knows anything, to disregard manufactured codes of silence designed to protect the guilty.

“Because by speaking the truth, they will make our community a safer place.”

It’s believed a gunshot fired from a distance killed the bikie and injured others, including a five-year-old boy.

The boy was treated for minor injuries while another bikie, 31-year-old Ricky Chapman, was seriously wounded.

Police fear the shooting could escalate tensions between rival motorcycle gangs.
